A big part of Acquisition Management is researching IT asset candidates. The IT Asset Manager needs to investigate how the asset will be disposed (recycled, refurbished, selling asset for scraps, etc.) and what processes may need to happen to cleanse the data from the device. Sometimes, an IT asset will be difficult to recycle and the data might be unable to be cleared without destroying the asset completely. This may lead to a serious risk factor for the organization and Return on Investment (ROI) for the device may decrease. Knowing what to look for while researching and considering many options during acquisition is what will make an ITAM program successful.
