i’m not part of physically tagging the asset. it is the job of DSS guys. But i do have knowledge regarding and use the tags, other than serial number and CI, in tracking the assets in CMDB

Its a unique identifier per physical asset. This are in turn put into a CMDB in Service Now.

I’m not currently part of the IT Asset Management Team but my company issued laptops and mobile device equipment do have a tagging system using barcodes to help identify the asset, age, etc.

Some contain barcodes or RFID tags, but all contain information on how to contact support, information regarding ownership, and the device name (as applied during imaging according to naming convention).

My company uses a barcoded Asset tag to track hardware. I recommend tagging to my customers – it should be a unique randomly generated string, barcode scannable (or QR Code), placed n an easy to access spot on each hardware device. Asset tags should not be informational – else folks will want to cahnge them if the device is repurposed. For devices hard to reach, hard to scan, rfid tags are preferred, even the most inexpensive that can be wanded with the right inexpensive technology.

They state the company name, the asset ID, and the location the asset is assigned to.
