Additional Key Process Areas (KPAs) I would add to the list of 12 include:

    13) Incident Management: Handling incidents related to IT assets promptly to minimize downtime and impact on operations.

    14) Change Management: Managing changes to IT assets to minimize disruption and ensure smooth transitions (e.g., decommissioning of a server).

    15) Service Level Management: Ensuring IT assets meet agreed-upon service levels and performance standards.

    16) Configuration Management: Maintaining information about the configuration of IT assets to support effective management and troubleshooting.

I think the current 12 are sufficient.

I really don’t know, I have only worked in ITAM for two months.

Process Improvement (“continual improvement”) … scheduled review of policies and practices and identify pain points or opportunities. (Probably included in Program Management, but I’d call it out for visibility.)

IAITAM should consider adding AI to the KPA list. Whilst this is still an evolving industry, its growth projections and influence on all of the existing 12 KPAs will be significant. As its own KPA, it would require dedicated teams, policies, procedures, and oversight that could elevate ITAM’s involvement in day-to-day operations.
