ParticipantModern Software Asset Management (SAM) has evolved beyond compliance to focus on cost optimization, value realization, and strategic vendor management. Organizations are increasingly adopting automation and AI-driven tools to streamline license discovery, usage tracking, and real-time compliance monitoring, reducing manual effort and improving accuracy. Additionally, with the shift to cloud and hybrid environments, SAM now plays a critical role in managing SaaS subscriptions, cloud entitlements, and hybrid licensing models, often integrated with ITSM and FinOps practices to enhance visibility and financial accountability.

ParticipantModern Software Asset Management (SAM) helps companies save money and stay compliant by using automation to track both traditional and cloud software, optimize usage, integrate with other business tools, and stay prepared for audits.

ParticipantThere was a heavy shift to remote work especially after COVID-19, but some orgs are getting staff back in the office either full time or hybrid solution. AI is also a trend that has permeated virtually every sphere of management.

Participantmodern Management that I could witnessed is the radio frequency tagging and tracking of items, the Teleworking with remote assets management, but also more sustainable behavior in acquisition process and life cycle management.

ParticipantI agree with many of the comments regarding COVID-19 and remote working. In recent years, remote work has become a critical consideration for candidates evaluating new job opportunities, and it’s likely to remain an ongoing expectation.
From an IT perspective, a notable trend—perhaps (accelerated by remote work requirements) is the shift towards the “Domainless” Enterprise. More organizations are moving away from on-premises domains in favor of enhanced security models, such as Decentralized Identity Management and Zero Trust. This transition can present challenges for asset management, as traditional device discovery methods often depend on Active Directory or IP scanning. As a result, organizations increasingly need to leverage modern device management tools for ITAM. Microsoft Intune, for example, is becoming an essential platform in this new landscape.
AI – how could I not mention it? Artificial intelligence is ubiquitous, and nearly everyone has interacted with it in some form. But as adoption accelerates, how long will it be before AI becomes the next Oracle Database (where auditors show up with hefty bills for exceeding your licensed entitlements)? That leads to the question of, How do you track it? Additionally, there’s the rising concern of “shadow AI,” Where unauthorized or unmonitored AI usage could further complicate compliance and governance.
