I seem to be in the minority according to other discussion posts. My title is actually “Information Technology Business Supervisor” and under my purview includes but is not limited to; building the annual IT Budget, assisting other departments in building their budgets, providing depreciation and GASB reports to our Finance department, maintaining our current years’ budget, overseeing all purchases made within our department and overseeing all IT related purchases across our entire organization, and certainly not least of all, overseeing our ITAM team.

The modern management trends which I have witnessed has been the focus on cybersecurity and business continuity. Many in this thread have spoken to, and rightly so, the effect that COVID-19 has had on ITAM in regards to remote work. However, I would be remiss not to mention the major focus in IT currently is cybersecurity, disaster recovery and business continuity. The prevalence of cybersecurity attacks has many organizations saying “not a matter of IF, but a matter of WHEN.” Due to the nature of some cybersecurity incidents, such as ransomware, that may take down intranet/internet, ITAM is now walking hand-in-hand with cybersecurity and disaster recovery more than ever before.

Modern management trends that I have noticed has been ITAM as it relates to disaster recovery and business continuity. Many in this thread have spoken to, and rightly so, the significant impact that COVID-19 had on remote work and asset management, however I also feel that there has been a hyper-focus on cybersecurity in the last few years. Our management and executive level teams are focusing on the relationship between managed assets and our cybersecurity stance and resiliency, and how to properly leverage said relationship to find secure and sustainable processes for our environment.
