Being Afrikaans myself, I used to use the wrong phrases, which misled my message. Your tone of voice can also influence your message, as well as body language. I worked on these issues and my messages are now clear and concise.

When I completed the task, the manager came to me to discuss the error I had made. The manager explained the process and gave me correct direction so that this wouldn’t happen again in the future. I made sure to remember the steps that were given to me so that the same mistake was not made again.

What I mean by that is usually if there is any miscommunication there is a level of tension that goes along with it. So I do my best to clarify what I was communicating or receiving and ask for clarification that I am understanding them correctly to resolve any issues and move forward as a team.

I handled it by meeting with them, level-setting with a structured list of key steps, and got everyone on the same page.
