The mission of my ITAM program is to make sure assets are properly tracked, used efficiently, and managed throughout their lifecycle, so we can reduce risk, avoid unnecessary costs, and help the organization make better decisions.
Honestly, almost everyone in the organization is an ITAM customer in one way or another — but if I had to name people who aren’t really involved, I’d say visitors, short-term contractors without access, or external vendors.
I would stick with Communication & Education Management, Program Management, and Policy Management as the foundation KPAs, because they help ensure everyone understands the goals, provide direction for all ITAM activities, and set clear rules and expectations across the organization.
In my ITAM program, the Program Manager oversees strategy, while acquisition, finance, compliance, technical, legal, and vendor roles support execution through defined RACI responsibilities.
To network with other professionals in the field, I will participate in IAITAM conference this year, and also engage with peers through LinkedIn groups.
I believe our organization would receive high ratings in certain KPAs such as Acquisition, Asset ID, and Disposal, as we have strong processes in place for procurement, asset tracking, and proper disposal of IT assets. However, some areas, such as Communication & Education, may not score as high.
By continuously expanding my knowledge and sharing valuable information with other professionals, I can contribute to the growth of the ITAM community. I aim to work with ethics, professionalism, and a forward-thinking mindset. Through collaboration and responsible practices, I hope to elevate the reputation and importance of our profession within organizations and across the industry.
I believe that my standards are alight with IAItam’s standards, as in my role, I prioritize compliance, accuracy, and collaboration across departments to ensure asset management practices support both operational goals and governance. I also respect the confidentiality of business information and always aim to make fair, unbiased decisions.
I would add a 13th KPA focused on Cloud & SaaS Asset Management. As more organizations move to cloud services and SaaS tools, it’s essential to have dedicated processes to track these assets, manage spend, and ensure compliance. This includes tools not always handled through IT or procurement, helping close visibility gaps and reduce risks
I am involved in Finance within my organization, as purchasing software, hardware, and services directly impacts the company’s budget and financial planning.
