Every department interacts with software asset management but hardware asset management is mainly limited to IT departments. Other departments such as maintenance and construction, real estate, and certain R&D departments have their own discretion over the equipment they manage.
I’d choose: Acquisition Management, Compliance Management, and Financial Management as a foundation for every functional ITAM program.
Our organization is horizontally aligned and as such has too many independent individuals/teams/departments to efficiently list. Each individual type of CI may have a myriad of different internal entities who are responsible, accountable, consulted, or informed.
These are my first steps. This is my second position in an ITAM role, and after 8 years I have finally received an ability to take courses.

12. VEN = 3Speaking truth to why the role and duties are beneficial to a company. So much wasted time and effort on hardware and software on figuring out the “who, what, when, why, and where” when it comes to IT because basic cross disciplinary fundamentals are not adhered to.
For software. Coordinated with technical teams and provided audit defense records from our software license platform. Very minor true up needed.
Accounting department is under self audit and directly responding to queries about IT assets.
We maintain a unique serialized IT asset number with 2d barcodes for our primary IT based configurable assets. We record IT asset tag number on our IT asset record along with the hardware serial number.
ITAM is heavily involved in our organizations finances. We report to a IT Finance Director who utilizes our teams activities for reconciling the IT division’s hardware and software costs. We are PO requestion processors, reporters to accounting, and analysts for hardware/software project costs.
That automation and adding more complexity to systems is the solution to all problems. Little interest in reinforcing core processes with allocating dedicated workforce to existing tasks/processes/technologies. Heavily focused on complexity ridden methodologies based on “automation” or ‘AI” technologies to try to find shortcuts wherever possible.
