December 17, 2024 at 10:04 pm in reply to: Perform a SWOT analysis on yourself. What are your strengths, weaknesses, etc.? #66010Jennifer FedyszynParticipant
Strengths: Effective communicator, strong work ethic, skilled at contract negotiation and interpretation, strong teaching and procedural creation background
Weaknesses: Need to continue to build skills in key areas (virtualization, hardware asset management, mobile asset management)
Opportunity: Further IAITAM certifications, and possibly a second baccalaureate degree, baccalaureate certification, or a master’s degree in Information Management Systems (have a background in music/music & copyright licensing)
Threat: Lack of opportunityDecember 17, 2024 at 10:01 pm in reply to: Create a SWOT analysis of your current or anticipated ITAM program. #66009Jennifer FedyszynParticipantStrengths: Negotiation skills, contract interpretation, strong, fully staffed team
Weaknesses: Documentation management and accuracy, communication, no software retirement process.
Opportunities: Collaboration, further training internally and for our internal clients
Threats: Senior management support, issues with data accuracyDecember 17, 2024 at 9:58 pm in reply to: Describe a time when there was a miscommunication and explain how you handled it. #66008Jennifer FedyszynParticipantThere were some miscommunications on some licensing compliance issues, along with the product support owners not taking any ownership and leaving it to me. I handled it by meeting with them, level-setting with a structured list of key steps, and got everyone on the same page.

Jennifer FedyszynParticipantCommunicate well, especially between teams, be an active listener, and keep yourself educated on best practices. That way, you can be a leader to educate others.
December 17, 2024 at 9:54 pm in reply to: Think of another form of communication that isn’t mentioned in the chapter. #66005Jennifer FedyszynParticipantNon-verbal cues (body, facial expressions).
December 17, 2024 at 9:52 pm in reply to: Do you have templates for paperwork such as a Request for Quote or Request for Proposal? #66004Jennifer FedyszynParticipantI believe so, but our Procurement team handles the formal RFQs and RFPs. Otherwise, our ITAM team will reach out for quotes, but it is typically done via email. We do have some templates, but not everyone on the team chooses to use them, and use isn’t enforced.
December 17, 2024 at 9:51 pm in reply to: Discuss how the Acquisition Manager acts as a gatekeeper. #66003Jennifer FedyszynParticipantThe Acquisition Manager acts as the gatekeeper in that he or she ensures that the asset meets the needs, requirements, and standards of the organization as well as those of the stakeholder. They are the initial point of contact, in the sense that is described by IAITAM.
December 17, 2024 at 9:48 pm in reply to: How will you explain the various job titles to the Human Resources Department? #66002Jennifer FedyszynParticipantOur IT leaders wouldn’t let us change the job titles since they need to remain generic. We’d have some flexibility in posting the job as needed, but otherwise they would all be roles that aren’t really defined by the job titles.
Jennifer FedyszynParticipantNo, roles aren’t the same as job titles. We have very generic titles that align with our division, and really don’t mention anything ITAM related. Our team also functions as both IT Vendor Management as well as IT Asset Management, but we are “Infrastructure Consultants.”
December 17, 2024 at 9:44 pm in reply to: Do you or will you have personnel lined up to support the management roles? #66000Jennifer FedyszynParticipantWe do have the personnel, but it needs to be better defined and implemented with all involved (inside and outside of ITAM).
December 17, 2024 at 9:41 pm in reply to: How can your organization help the environment when it comes to IT assets? #65999Jennifer FedyszynParticipantMake sure assets are disposed of properly with our third-party.
December 17, 2024 at 9:39 pm in reply to: Does your organization already have asset disposal? If not, what’s one thing you can do when you return to encourage that? #65998Jennifer FedyszynParticipantYes, we do through a third party for our hardware and mobile devices.
December 17, 2024 at 9:38 pm in reply to: Does your organization already have asset disposal? If not, what’s one thing you can do when you return to encourage that? #65997Jennifer FedyszynParticipantYes, we have a contract with a third-party for our hardware and mobile assets. This is managed by our contracting firm that is in-house in our Device Management team.
December 17, 2024 at 9:37 pm in reply to: What mobile savings do you expect to uncover with your ITAM program? #65996Jennifer FedyszynParticipantI am not involved in our Mobile Asset Management (primarily SAM), but I know we’ve realized over a million in savings by turning off cell phones, routers, and other mobile devices that weren’t being used but were still active and resulting in monthly charges in our ITAM Telecom area. This was primarily started since the teams that were responsible for managing it before (outside of ITAM) basically did not manage it. We’ve taken big strides to get our ITAM Telecom area cleaner.
