C-Suites, VPs, Directors on the front end… and techs on the back end.
June 6, 2024 at 8:57 pm in reply to: Consider the executives you’ll have to convince. What negotiation skills will you have to use? #60400Sherrin RichardsParticipantPresent the cost benefit analysis, business plan and make sure you have built a case for each decision making stakeholder.
June 6, 2024 at 8:51 pm in reply to: What roles and responsibilities do you have or anticipate you’ll have in your ITAM program? #60399Sherrin RichardsParticipantEstablish controls, gain visibility into your environment, optimize costs, and maintain license compliance to reduce risk. Understand a customer’s software licensing environment to improve their position negotiating agreements and renewals with publishers.
Sherrin RichardsParticipantThe knowledge gained so far is summarized in the “Is Map,” which is the assessment of the
current environment. To document direction, the “Should Map” is the ultimate KPA
implementation that fulfills the goals for ITAM to the best achievable level. The “Should Map” is
not necessarily achievable in a single project or year. From this map, ideas for analysis, projects,
and opportunities are generated as progress is made. ITAM is a quest for the ultimate goal
achievement rather than a destination. Without a plan or in this case an effective map, it is hard
to reach the desired goals.

June 6, 2024 at 5:41 pm in reply to: Perform a SWOT analysis on yourself. What are your strengths, weaknesses, etc.? #60396Sherrin RichardsParticipantS: Relationship building, genuine care for the customers as people and I want to help customers obtain results with our service offerings.
W: I am not aggressive.
O: Continual learning – Continual improvements and advancements for customers and self-improvement for me.
T: Rising costs, need for more staff, publishers taking business direct instead of working with parntersJune 6, 2024 at 5:33 pm in reply to: Create a SWOT analysis of your current or anticipated ITAM program. #60395Sherrin RichardsParticipantS: Our ITAM Managed Services will save customers time and money and will keep them safe from audit risks, security risks and wasteful IT spend. We will identify surpluses and how they lack licenses. Also, we can do a SaaS cost optimization to help them realize what they are buying and installing.
W: Staff. We need to hire more people. The hiring process of finding the right, qualified matches takes a long time.
O: Customers… They are their own enemies. Customers are still using spreadsheets to document their assets and they have run away IT spend and are spending way too much money. And at the same time, they are under licensed and are at risk for EOL products with no support or security patches.
T: Competitors, lack of budget for price increases all around, customer’s not understanding the risks that are bleeding them dry.
June 6, 2024 at 5:22 pm in reply to: Describe a time when there was a miscommunication and explain how you handled it. #60394Sherrin RichardsParticipantDuring a meeting with a customer, both parties had attendees and speakers from vastly different time zones and with diverse, native, dominant languages. I could tell one party could not understand another party and I could sense frustration on both sides. I suggested we table the rest of the subjects for another meeting and summarized the call for both parties via email.
I spoke to my colleague and let her know that the customer had a challenging time comprehending. The customer had confirmed my suspicion after the call that he could not understand and follow the conversation.
At the next call, I reminded my team before the call to speak very slowly and I recorded and transcribed the call after no one objected. It was a much better call!
Sherrin RichardsParticipantBe aware of blockers
Sherrin RichardsParticipantCheck your ego. Be authentic. Communicate, listen and make the expectations known. Get a good therapist and seek counsel or discuss any work scenarios. Going to HR can be helpful but speaking with a professional outside the company is of great benefit, too.

June 6, 2024 at 2:53 pm in reply to: Do you have templates for paperwork such as a Request for Quote or Request for Proposal? #60328Sherrin RichardsParticipantWe do.
June 6, 2024 at 2:53 pm in reply to: Discuss how the Acquisition Manager acts as a gatekeeper. #60327Sherrin RichardsParticipantAcquisition Managers are the gatekeepers for the application of all ITAM strategies determined by
an organization, including policies, standards, and lifecycle processes.June 6, 2024 at 2:51 pm in reply to: How will you explain the various job titles to the Human Resources Department? #60326Sherrin RichardsParticipantWe provide HR with the job descriptions required to attract matches for our ITAM team.
June 6, 2024 at 2:49 pm in reply to: How can your organization help the environment when it comes to IT assets? #60325Sherrin RichardsParticipantWe help customers with proper ITAD processes and we help customers by offering environmental and energy reporting. We can calculate the optimum server hardware replacement with lower energy usage, cost and carbon emissions. And then customers can modify their infrastructure to decrease their energy consumption and carbon footprint. It is pretty amazing.
