June 17, 2024 at 3:36 pm in reply to: Discuss how the Acquisition Manager acts as a gatekeeper. #60981James LyonsParticipant
The acquisition manager is the gatekeeper for policies standards and lifecycle. They attempt to prevent lost, incompatible documentation, they stand over the purchasing of licenses, prevent underutilization of assets by ensuring proper criteria are used to measure need and effectiveness. They also work to make strategic choices and redeploy already purchased licenses. They should reduce risk by adhering to standards and ensuring compliance.
June 17, 2024 at 3:32 pm in reply to: How will you explain the various job titles to the Human Resources Department? #60980James LyonsParticipantThere is no need to explain the title to human resources. The role has been established and the job description already approved.
James LyonsParticipantGenerally, roles and job titles do not have a one-to-one match, rather the titles are a bit more generic.

June 17, 2024 at 3:20 pm in reply to: How can your organization help the environment when it comes to IT assets? #60977James LyonsParticipantWe can help by utilizing vendors who commit to sustainability and green practices. We can also investigate lifecycle times for hardware and work to “future-proof” hardware as best as possible. Utilizing virtualization lessens the hardware footprint as well.

June 17, 2024 at 2:18 pm in reply to: What software savings do you expect to uncover with your ITAM program? #60967James LyonsParticipantAt this point, I do not have an estimation of savings but there are areas where we know savings exist. Among them are in license harvesting, vendor pricing, contract renegotiations, and software catalog/capability streamlining.
James LyonsParticipantOur mission is to have total lifecycle management for any asset. Devices should be tracked from point of order to disposal. Software catalogs should be created and maintained with attention paid to usage and compliance such that a report can be generated at will to assist in auditing.
June 17, 2024 at 2:02 pm in reply to: Name individuals in your organization who are not ITAM customers. #60965James LyonsParticipantAny user who does not have a direct need for software or hardware assets would be included here. That is a diminishing group of users in this day and age but there are still examples. Landscapers, painters, HVAC, plumbing, and other facilities maintenance individuals, housekeeping and kitchen staff. may fall into this category.
James LyonsParticipantWhile these three KPAs may form the foundation for a successful program, having comprehensive processes in place that allow an organization to excel in Asset Identification Management and Compliance Management are functionally some of the most important KPAs and having insight into those areas will better inform where changes to Communication/Education, Policy and Program Management will need to be made.
